Yankee girl in Arthur's court

You can't appreciate home till you've left it, money till it's spent, your wife till she's joined a woman's club, nor Old Glory till you see it hanging on a broomstick on the shanty of a consul in a foreign town. O. Henry Porter 1862-1910, American short-story Writer

Chocolate makes the world go round

For what you are about to read, I am truly sorry, but I must share. Ah, not literally that is, but let me explain. The chocolates have arrived, my friends, and oh that you could share the privilege with me..but, well, er, I'm kind of glad you can't ...haha. They came in a long oblong box wrapped in plain brown paper, and except for an attached envelope with the addressee's name and address, there was no company logo, or other labeling clue which would give away the contents of the mystery box. Not that I wondered. And ah yes...there were also the words "Postman please do not leave in heat or direct sunlight (in all caps). I unwrapped the box, and found the most elegant array of confectionary (or is it confectionaries?) you've ever laid eyes on. And yes, it came with the scorecard on which you can rate the chocs from one to ten, and then give your favorite and least favorite along with reasons why you voted that way. Wow..the literature also says that the chocolates that I will be receiving come from all corners of the chocolate world...Belgium, France, Switzerland, Latin America, the Caribbean, Spain...even Papua New Guinea. Okay, I'm tempted to list the names of the chocolates in the box I got, but, I'll restrain myself and just tell you one that I've tried. It's called Blueberry Bombe: "Real blueberries and nothing but real blueberries are used in this recipe to give the flavours and colours you'll experience...The mellow white chocolate shell has been carefully chosen to balance the natural tartness of the blueberry cream ganache inside..OKAY I'll stop... lest in a great rage you curse me and never return to my blog again.

The moth population is in decline....

You know there's no point in listening to the rest of the news when you hear that soundbyte at the start of the morning newscast. Yes, indeed, I am frequently amused at what they dig up and broadcast as newsworthy on this little island.
In other rib tickling news...Lexie noticed a new video had made it's appearance in the living room today. She had been carrying on about a monkey video, and I was most curious as to what she was referring to. Then she pointed to the Pilates video that my friend loaned me. As if that wasn't funny enough, when I said "Where's the monkey?" she pointed to the woman featured on the box cover.

Chocolate on the brain

Okay chocolate lovers...be prepared to turn green with envy. Charlie gave me something extraordinary for Valentines day. I am now an official member of a chocolate tasting club! The introductionary package that came in the mail includes a leaflet explaining the chocolate tasting club, a club handbook, a chocolate newsletter, and a voucher for the entitled holder to send in to the company to claim their first batch of chocolates to taste.
This is how it works: The voucher entitles you to 7 chocolate tasting box selections which include free delivery and can be easily slipped through the mail slot in your door (as we don't have mailboxes here). You fill out the voucher with your address and send it freepost, whereupon you receive your first box of chocolates within 10 days. You can have your chocolates come once a month for seven months, or space it out in some other way. Every batch is a new selection and..to quote the brochure:"the chocolates are made in separate, ultra-fresh batches exclusively for the club." Also, every time you get your chocolate, the selection comes with a scorecard so you can tell them (if you choose to) what you liked or didn't like and give them feedback. WHOOHOO! Bring it on!! I'll have to say though...it's good that they won't arrive for 10 days, and here's why. I made Charlie a chocolate cake for his birthday at the beginning of the month. We made that last for a while. Then, I made one yesterday for Valentines day. At the moment, it's sitting very lonely in the frig. The day before, I made some chocolate brownies, since it seemed like the right thing to do..you know..with Valentine's day approaching, and maybe I'd like to share some with friends etc etc. Well....then I had to buy CHARLIE some chocolates of COURSE...what is Valentines day without a box of chocolates? It wasn't until all these things happened that I received a chocolate lover's dream gift .......and THEN....what do you suppose happened? I got a mild case of the stomach flu. Soooo....don't rub it in.
