Young moms listen up. I have discovered a wonderful website recently which I have found to be incredibly helpful and encouraging to me. It's called: www.girltalk.blogs.com
On it, I found a talk by a woman called Carolyn Mahaney called "In Every Season of Life" which I bought and downloaded. It is one of the most inspiring messages I have heard in a very, very long time. And that...is why I'm posting this. She speaks on Eph. 5:15-17 which says: "Be very careful, then, how you live—not as unwise but as wise, 16making the most of every opportunity, because the days are evil. 17Therefore do not be foolish, but understand what the Lord's will is." The literal translation of the phrase "making the most of every opportunity" means: to buy up; rescue from lost; improve.
If you have young (pre-school age) children esp, it's so easy to feel like every day is pretty much the same as yesterday...it all starts to blur. It's all too easy to eventually just start letting life happen to you, instead of "seizing the day". Seizing the day doesn't have to mean conquering the world. In this particular season of life, "seizing the day" might not look the same as "seizing the day" might have looked when you were single or newly married etc...Here are a couple of quotes from her message: “Whatever season of life we find ourselves in at present, it’s only for a fraction of time”. “We get so bogged down with daily life that we don’t even think about life being short”. That's all from my soap box:)

Abcrabadagbra--part 2

Speaking of magic wands...The other day, we had to get Lexie some new sneakers, tennis shoes, or whatever you may like to call them. Here they call them trainers. Anyway, I was in another part of the dpt store with Arthur while Charlie and Lexie picked out and purchased her shoes. Upon meeting them in the shoe dpt I was greeted by Lexie's shouts of glee as she loudly and proudly showed me her new footwear. And what footwear it was. I have never liked those kids shoes that light up when you walk, and...well...what kind of shoes do you think greeted me. Some bright and flashing white velcro flap ones...yes. Alas, I have to give in to the 'trailer trash' fashion statement. Sorry if you're child happens to own a pair... not trying to diss you...
But my story is only half over..remember the magic wand? Well...the shoes just happened to come with a little plastic wand, which when waved over a certain part of the shoe, activates some sort of battery in the tongue or body of the shoe somewhere, and lo and behold they resonate with sound. Young people and their gadgetry these days...oh my. Which brings me to imagine myself one day telling her children about how when I was a girl, there was no such thing as Velcro straps on shoes. We had these big long strings called laces, which you had to tie in a bow. And magic wands? Ha!

Or something like that...That's Lexie's translation of "abra-cadabra". The other day she waved her toy magic wand and announced she was going to turn Arthur into a walrus...of all things. And where does she get this stuff? Not Harry Potter--that's for sure. Hmmmm...what to blog about. Weeellll...Lexie had her first dentist appt on Monday. That would be a good topic if there was much to write about. She has a book about visiting the dentist so she was pretty interested in the whole experience. It didn't take the said dentist long to check her out...not that it takes them long to see anyone here...but that's another story. As we left the room, having ridden the magic chair, and had her teeth inspected and counted, Lexie told me "that was lots of fun". May the novelty not soon disappear.
