Yankee girl in Arthur's court

You can't appreciate home till you've left it, money till it's spent, your wife till she's joined a woman's club, nor Old Glory till you see it hanging on a broomstick on the shanty of a consul in a foreign town. O. Henry Porter 1862-1910, American short-story Writer

Easter Happenings..

Okay...time to do a little bragging. Yesterday I made a special treat-some lemon and almond buns. It was a recipe I saw in a weekend paper supplement, and decided to try out. Yum! They are pretty tasty if I do say so myself. It is a lemon flavored butter dough that bakes like a brioche with gooey marzipan in the center. Really easy dough to make--just mix flour salt, yeast, lemon zest, sugar butter and egg and then leave overnight.... I also have been decorating eggs this week, as and when I grabbed a free moment. Here they are in all their glory. I garnered egg decorating advice from hither and yon websites. Too bad the Martha Stewart's marbelized version didn't come out looking like much. She suggested dying the egg in a light color, and then when it is dry, dying it in a darker color dye bath mixed with oil so that the lighter color will then show through. The one in plastic wrap looks like an egg, but it is actually a gingerbread cookie in the shape of one...that came with the Easter basket Lexie got from her grandma. I also made some little Easter egg baskets for Lexie and a little friend who will be joining us for Easter dinner tommorow. I took a yogurt container and punched holes in the sides. Then I twisted two pipe cleaners together for a handle and tied them together through the holes.

Out of the mouths of....girls

Lexie has had a cough develop in the past couple days. This morning, after she woke up, she noticed a difference in her vocal cords. She sadly told Charlie, "I have boy talking daddy, I don't have girl talking..."

It's pretty impressive:)

Let them drink tea....

Lexie has become OBSESSED with the idea of tea parties. It is most amusing though, as there is not a lot of emphasis placed on the culinary. The idea is to place random objects of various description on the appropriate pink fleece blanket, and then perhaps put on some accessories. You will notice the doll's potty seat in this picture. When I deigned to join her today, I was given a yellow bead necklace, a headband and a wedding ring? To be more precise...they were forced upon my person. It is a big production, and she is always BEGGING us to come and see or join her...soo very loverly:)

Come to my tea pah-tee!

Not SILLY, I'm boot-i-ful!

I playfully told her she looked silly in this get-up, but Lexie was (seriously) insulted, and insisted that she didn't look silly, but that she was boot-i-ful, instead.
I did manage to persuade her to give the tiara the old heave-ho before we paraded down to the Post Office.
