Yankee girl in Arthur's court

You can't appreciate home till you've left it, money till it's spent, your wife till she's joined a woman's club, nor Old Glory till you see it hanging on a broomstick on the shanty of a consul in a foreign town. O. Henry Porter 1862-1910, American short-story Writer

Bring on the sun....

Farewell, grey cold England...I hope the wall of stifling Southern heat won't bowl me over. It was cold and rainy today. Went to the park with both kids and it felt like September. Lexie had on a jacket and wellies. I saw someone wearing cords and boots. What is the world coming to! It's the HEIGHT of summer! Back in a few moons...

Happy Birthday dear Andrew!

I wished you happy birthday out loud this morning, as I stood alone in the kitchen. It's grey and rainy here today. Looks how I feel inside, and how others of us feel when we think about what day today is. This afternoon, I lit a candle for your birthday, and listened to a cd mix of yours, as I worked. I gingerly flipped my daily calendar page to July 24, holding my breathe to see what words of wisdom might greet me....wondering if it might be anything especially appropriate for this day. Here is what I found:

The greatest treasure anyone can discover while unwrapping a trial is God's love. Troubled times have a way of cutting into a life deep channels that can carry God's love to you and your love to others.

I hope that's true...and I hope I can carry it to someone else...

I hurmyself!

This is Lexie's newest and most oft' repeated phrase. Whether she has brushed her toenail or scraped her knee. I am getting VERYYY weary of hearing it... The other day, I did actually hurt MY self, in some small way or I had some mark on my body which she saw and was concerned about, because she said "We'll get a band-aid on it soon, ok? It'll make you feel better, don't worry." Nothing like hearing the words you once uttered, compiled, and repeated back to you from the mouth of your child when you least expect it:)

Pause for thought.....

Some random unrelated quotations to brighten your day...

There is tremendous happiness in making others happy, despite our own situations. Shared grief is half the sorrow, but happiness when shared, is doubled. If you want to feel rich, just count all the things you have that money can't buy. "Today is a gift, that's why it is called the present..."

Every mother is like Moses. She does not enter the promised land. She prepares a world she does not see.
